Tanya Hill is a National Board Certified Reading and Language Specialist with over 20 years of teaching experience. Mrs. Hill is currently serving in a hybrid role as a 4th grade ESL teacher and Instructional Peer Coach for Shelby County Schools in Memphis, TN. She is also the ESL adjunct professor for Memphis Teacher Residency and serves as Secretary for the National Board Network for Accomplished Minoritized Educators (NB NAME). She is currently pursuing an Ed.D in Instructional Leadership from Union University, focusing on the impact of achieving National Board Certification on teacher attrition and job satisfaction. Mrs. Hill has an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from Union University.

Originally from New Orleans, LA, she received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Reading and English as a 2nd Language from The University of New Orleans. Mrs. Hill relocated to Memphis, TN in 2007, where she found her love for teaching English as a 2nd language.

Mrs. Hill has served as a state teacher fellow for the Hope Street Group, where she advocated to include teacher voice with educational policymakers. She also served as a Facilitator for Teach Plus Memphis, where she provided teacher-led professional development to Shelby County School teachers. Mrs. Hill’s passion for teaching was featured in Chalkbeat TN as part of their “How I Teach” series in October 2016.
